RI wedding music

Looking for music for your RI wedding? Come check out Steel Tide, a calypso and jazz band that can make your reception a success.

There are many areas that need planning for a wedding ceremony and reception including food, music, flowers, photography, and transportation. One of the most important on this list would be the music. Normally, it is the bride that will book the band or DJ.

One of the first decisions to make regarding music is whether to book the vendor directly or through an agency. There is very rarely a price difference when booking your vendor in either of these ways. Therefore, it is up to you to decide which way you would prefer based on cost. Many bands in the New England area are represented by agencies.

You should be aware that bands will nearly always take the first gig that gives a deposit for a specific date, no matter how many other possible clients have previously contacted the band for the same time. In an industry like entertainment, it is the first to either make a deposit or request a contract that will get the booking. Bands do not normally hold dates for people.

There are many details you should know about regarding the actual booking of a band. An important issue to discuss ahead of time is the break schedule. Normally, a band will play for 45 minutes and then get a 15 minute break. During the breaks, bands will often play pre-recorded songs, although this is not something that all bands will do. If you would like this to be something the band does, make sure to put a clause in the contract. Also, a band will normally desire a 50% deposit ahead of time with the other 50% due on the date of the wedding, although this is also something that you should verify with the band you are working with ahead of time.

You should try to view a band in advance. There are some situations where it is quite acceptable to view a band, for example at band showcases or in a night club, and some where it is quite wrong, for example at someone else's reception. You should also try to book the band a good amount of time in advance due to the competitive nature of the entertainment industry. If you are unable to view a band that you are interested in by going to see them perform live, you can request a demo video or CD. A video is not as good a way to go as a CD because when you watch the video, there are many distractions whereas a CD gives you the option of mobility.
